About The Instructor

Dominique Traverse Locke,
B.A., M.F.A.

Mrs. Traverse Locke received a B.A. in English from Virginia Intermont College where she also served as editor of the college’s literary magazine. She received a M.F.A. in Creative Writing from Queens University of Charlotte. Mrs. Traverse Locke has had work published in the literary magazines The Sow’s Ear Poetry Review, Barely South Review, Pine Mountain Sand & Gravel, The Howl, The Clinch Mountain Review, and The Dead Mule as well as numerous other publications. Two of her manuscripts were finalists in the Press 53 Open Awards, one of which won the poetry category. Her poem, Thumb, was a finalist in the STILL: The Journal Literary Contests. Additionally, her poem By Late July was nominated for a Pushcart Prize. Mrs. Traverse Locke’s first collection of poems, a chapbook entitled The Goodbye Child, was recently published by Aldrich Press. Also recently, her first full-length collection of poems, No More Hard Times, was published by Alabaster Leaves Publishing. Mrs. Traverse Locke is a member of the Appalachian Authors Guild and the Virginia Writers Club. In addition to her instructor position with the Holton Governor’s School, Mrs. Traverse Locke also teaches Advanced Placement English, British Literature, and Journalism at Twin Valley High School.

Creative Writing

Creative Writing introduces the student to the fundamentals of writing imaginatively. Students write in forms to be selected from poetry, fiction, drama, and essays.
