Assignment Submission Guide
Probability and Statistics I & II

ASSIGNMENTS SUBMITTED FOR GRADING MUST OBSERVE THE FOLLOWING GUIDELINES

  • Use standard white 8.5” x 11” three ring binder notebook paper, either wide or narrow (college) ruled.  (Only One Exception: Use of graph paper, where appropriate, is permitted but not required unless otherwise explicitly specified.)  Work submitted on any other type of paper, such as paper removed from spiral bound notebooks or tablet paper, will not be accepted for grading.  (Click here for a picture of acceptable paper.)

  • Write on only one side of the paperUse a sharp Number Two pencil.  Do not use ink pens, felt tip pens, etc

  • Work “down the page.”  For example, work “part b” of a problem below “part a” on your paper, not to the right.  Work problem #2 below problem #1, not beside it, regardless of the space available on your paper.

  • Do not write anything (this includes problem numbers) in the left-hand paper margin.

  • Submit all problems in numerical order (e.g., page containing work for problems 9.12 and 9.15 is to be placed before the page containing work for problems 9.20 and 9.21).

  • Your work must be neat.  Work not meeting this criterion will be returned for resubmission with substantial penalty.

  • You Must Show Your Work.  Simply listing your final numerical answer is not acceptable.  “Correct” numerical answers will receive a grade of zero if an appropriate display of work is not shown.

  • Label graphs.  Include units where appropriate. Use a ruler to draw axes.  Scale graphs to an appropriate size.  (No postage stamp size graphs and no graphs so large that use of page margin(s) is required.)

  • Clearly delineate your answer(s). Include units with your final answer where appropriate.

  • Beginning on left-hand side of the top line of the first page only of a homework assignment, explicitly list the assignment.  For example, write

Homework Assignment #10: 6.4, 6.8, 6.23, 6.44, 6.51
                                               OR

                  HW#10: 6.4, 6.8, 6.23, 6.44, 6.51

  • DO NOT STAPLE your work. If you need to attach your work papers together, please only use a paperclip. Also, clearly and legibly write your full name (first and last legal name, not a nickname) on at least the first page of your work submission.
